Charlie Mars
Charlie Mars is a Mississippi-born songwriter whose music blends folk, Americana, alt-country, and atmospheric roots rock with literary depth and emotional honesty. A lifelong wordsmith with an English degree from SMU, Mars writes songs that resist genre and dig into the human condition—exploring pride, doubt, fear, and the search for meaning with candor and restraint.
After years in towns and touring circuits familiar to working musicians, Mars retreated to rural Yalobusha County, Mississippi, trading modern noise for land, quiet, and perspective. That shift reshaped his songwriting, grounding his work in place, tradition, and observation. Influenced by artists ranging from Neil Young and Jackson Browne to Uncle Tupelo and Daniel Lanois, his songs balance classic structure with textured, exploratory sound.
Over a 20-year career, Mars has released seven studio albums along with multiple EPs and singles, shared stages with R.E.M., Steve Earle, and KT Tunstall, and been featured in outlets including Forbes, USA Today, and American Songwriter. At heart, he remains a working songwriter—one who believes in small rooms, honest songs, and the power of staying rooted while still dreaming forward.
